Jericho Prayer Meetings

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6: 10-17

The Jericho prayer walk.

Joshua 6:1-27

Understanding the battle of Jericho is a crucial step to our success in the awakening the sleeping giant, the Body of Christ. The battle of Jericho ios a master class in spiritual warfare. It is a template for removing strongholds that can block the path to evangelising for salvation.

.

On the Israelites’ journey to reach the promised land, Jericho was the major obstacle that blocked their way forward. It was a fortress of evil so strong that only God could destroy it.

God spoke to Joshua:

“See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.”

“See” – is an instruction to us to vision it in our hearts and minds, to know it in our spirit.

God instructed Joshua that the Israeli army walk around the fortress – in total silence. Can you imagine how hard that would have been for thousands of warriors – total silence and they had to do that each day for 6 days?

Can you imagine the insults and banter from the people looking down from the walls of the fortress? The temptation to retaliate must have been huge.

Why did God instruct this?

Firstly it was about obedience to God's word and His will.

He instructed them to “See” the fortress destroyed … in their hearts, minds, and spirit. They had to believe in faith that God would do the heavy lifting and take down the fortress.

On the seventh day, they were ordered to march around the fortress 7 times, with the trumpets sounding, and after the seventh circuit, the trumpeters blew a long blast, the warriors gave a huge shout, and the walls came down. The Israeli army went in and destroyed Jericho except for Rahab and her family who God had ordered to be spared.

So …What is the application of this today?

When entering a “nation” every obstacle we face is a spiritual battle against fortresses of evil and the spirits within. Without God, we cannot win.

Step 2 of evangelism is to take down the evil stronghold governing a place, a region, a club, a school, etc.

At FGBA we hold Jericho Prayer meetings.

We pray in corporately and in silence and supplication targeting the evil strongholds that stand in our way which try to prevent us reaching people. We use the authoirty of the name name of our Lord Jesus Christ to defeat the spiritual enemy.

We “see” the fortresses falling.

Where possible we physically go to the location of the evil fortress that stands in our way of entering the targeted nation.

Why physically go there? The Israelites did not pray from afar in the desert. They went to the stronghold and encamped nearby, that’s when the battle began.

Once the evil fortress has been defeated, we can move into that nation and begin our work, enabling salvation for those whom God knows are ready.

The Jericho Prayer Meetings are held in several locations each month where we engage in biblically legal spiritual warfare.
